Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic dentistry refers to dental that improve the appearance of your teeth. These improvements are both aesthetic and functional.
Types of procedures include:
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a dental procedure that lightens the colour of your teeth. Often teeth whitening is used to restore discolouring of teeth from medicines, tobacco, coffee, tea, and some foods.
Dental Crowns
Dental crowns fit over a prepared natural tooth. Dental crowns are also known as ‘caps’ made from porcelain and metal. Crowns are used for teeth which need to be strengthened – either because they have broken, have been weakened by a very large filling, or have had root canal treatment.
Dental Bridges
Bridges are a common way of replacing 1 or more missing teeth. Bridges are cemented to a natural tooth.
Veneer
A thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth. Veneers can improve the colour, shape and position of your front teeth, making them look natural.
A veneer takes two visits.
On the first visit, impressions are taken of your lower and upper teeth to make a permanent record of their appearance.
An accurate reproduction is produced and now the preparation of the tooth/teeth can commence. Because they are very thin, very little preparation of the tooth is needed.
The colour of the surrounding teeth is matched to a shade guide. The impression and shade are then sent to the lab.
On the second visit, the veneer(s) is now ready to bond to your tooth, held in place by a special strong adhesive.
Veneers should last for many years but they can chip or break, just like your own teeth.
Dr Ron will be happy to answer any questions you may have and if a veneer is a suitable option for you.
